Gunfire Erupts in Botched Weed Deal
A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly firing a gun at a Glennwilde residence while attempting to retrieve marijuana, according to a police investigation.
The Maricopa Police Department charged Joseph A. Norman, 40, with weapons misconduct, disorderly conduct, and first-degree trespassing, based on a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
The incident began Wednesday night when Norman was smoking marijuana with a female companion at his brother’s home. The specific location was not disclosed by the police.
On Thursday morning, officers responded to the home to break up a physical altercation between Norman and the woman, who appeared to be disputing a botched marijuana transaction.
As the woman drove back to her residence on West Almira Drive, Norman reportedly followed her.
Later that afternoon, the woman called 9-1-1, reporting that Norman had climbed over her fence and was pounding on her door and windows, demanding his money or marijuana. He then moved to the front door, continuing to bang and yell.
Neighbors informed police that they witnessed Norman at the home and heard gunshots before he left the scene. Officers found an empty bullet casing in the driveway, but Norman had already fled.
Authorities later located Norman near Arvanda Road and Allen Stephens Parkway and arrested him. He was found in possession of a handgun.
Norman was taken to Pinal County jail, where he faces charges that could result in a year-and-a-half-long prison sentence.
