Exclusive Access: Uncle Kracker’s New Album Embraces Authenticity | Music Insight
Uncle Kracker is set to perform at The Maverick on Thursday, July 25, providing an exclusive off-date show amidst his broader tour commitments. Born Matthew Shafer, the singer is known for his hits “Drift Away” and “Follow Me.”
The show comes as Kracker tours with Kenny Chesney, though he won’t join Chesney at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre. “In Tempe, I’ll probably play a lot of old stuff,” Kracker mentioned. “We’re going to throw new stuff in there. We’re not going to smother people with brand-new stuff, though — just a few things. I’ll pull up a lot of old rap stuff.” His solo performance will extend to an hour and a half, contrasting the shorter sets during Chesney’s stadium tour.
Uncle Kracker recently released his first full-length album in 12 years, titled “Coffee & Beer.” The album reflects his mantra, “I grow up, but I just don’t grow old,” combining country, pop, rock, and hip-hop. It features tracks like the tender “Sweet 16,” laid-back “Beach Chair,” and swagger-filled “Life Goes On.” According to Kracker, “It’s fun and still me — just a few years later. Some material is a little more mature.”
Produced with longtime collaborator Josh Bright, “Coffee & Beer” aims to provide a soundtrack for summer. “I’m so stoked to finally be releasing this project that I’ve been working on for a while,” Kracker said. “I wanted to give my fans a soundtrack to summer and what’s better than the balance of first coffee…then beer?”
Uncle Kracker’s fans in Tempe can expect a blend of nostalgic favorites and new material, ensuring an engaging experience for attendees. The performance at The Maverick promises to be a memorable evening of music and entertainment.
