New Traffic Signal Revolutionizes Former 4-Way Stop
A new four-way stop has been introduced today at the intersection of Bowlin and White and Parker Roads. Tempe-based Nesbitt Contracting installed the stop signs this morning. This change is a temporary measure, pending the completion of a longer-term, $1.7 million project set to transform the intersection.
The project aims to widen the south and east legs of the intersection. A traffic signal will be installed, and all four travel directions will feature dedicated left-turn bays. Additionally, westbound Bowlin Road will have a continuous right-turn lane. City spokesperson Quinn Konold provided these details earlier today.
Previously, the intersection operated as a two-way stop, which frequently resulted in T-bone crashes. The north and southbound lanes on White and Parker Road were previously free-flowing without stop signs. This new traffic control measure is expected to significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
The intersection is one of two key connectors between the east and west sides of Maricopa. The project is scheduled to be completed by October 15, according to information from a city-maintained map.
