5 Must-Know Facts About the Exciting Proposed Resort on Bahama Avenue | Local News Stories

The proposed 14-acre resort in Lake Havasu City, by a California-based company, is progressing through the approval process after an initial hearing. The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to hold a public meeting to vote on the request for the resort to be built at 1850 Bahama Ave, near commercial and residential buildings. The resort plan includes approximately 200 units, with most being hotel rooms and the rest being condos or apartments. At a recent hearing, Austin Springer, an architect with Studio KDA, shared that the buildings are designed like apartments, with the ownership model still under consideration. Here are five key points to note about the proposed project ahead of the meeting: 1. Two requests are being made for consideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission – one for a major general plan amendment and another for a development plan. The amendment seeks to change the land use designation to resort-related-mainland to offer public access to the development’s resort-style amenities. 2. The project will be executed in three phases, with the first phase including pools, restaurants, a market, parking, and a residential building. Subsequent phases will add additional residential buildings and amenities. 3. The buildings are planned to be approximately five stories high, dispersed across the site, well below the maximum height allowed under current zoning regulations. 4. The resort will utilize municipal water for various purposes, including pools, restaurants, guest rooms, and laundry services. 5. Concerns voiced by residents at the initial hearing include water usage, noise, lighting, traffic, staffing, and public safety. Traffic study results suggest existing infrastructure can handle the added traffic. The applicant has addressed other concerns, promising adherence to all regulations and round-the-clock management presence for issue resolution. The upcoming meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the municipal courthouse on 92 Acoma Blvd.
