1 year after massive propane fire, victims searching for answers

Propane Fire Victims Seek Answers 1 Year Later

Drivers who had cars destroyed in propane tank fire are looking for a cause behind the fire and who is responsible

Stephanie Perez has vividly replayed July 20, 2023, in her mind for a full year, seeking closure and answers.

Returning to Phoenix from Miami, Perez received an email from Sundance Airport Parking notifying her about extensive damages caused by a fire at the lot where her car was parked.

A four-alarm inferno fueled by propane tanks from a nearby business erupted at the property, leaving many vehicles damaged or destroyed due to the extreme heat.

Watching the aftermath video, Perez immediately knew her car was among the casualties.

Burnt vehicles littered the site after the fire spread from Bill’s Propane Service to Sundance Airport Parking, leaving Perez and other victims to grapple with the loss.

Perez’s stress was amplified by the absence of comprehensive insurance, leaving her with a $50,000 financial burden and the need for a new car.

Uniting with fellow victims, Perez set up a Facebook group to collectively seek answers and justice, unsatisfied by the government’s silence since the incident.

Resulting in destruction, torched propane tanks and charred vehicles have been removed from the property, prompting Phoenix Fire to conclude an 87-page report to determine the fire’s cause.

Ownership complexities involving the federal government, SRP, Sundance Parking Lot, and Bill’s Propane Service have muddled the responsibility aspect, pushing Perez and others towards legal action.

Collaborating with a lawyer, the victims aim to expedite the resolution process, emphasizing the urgency of seeking accountability.

12News’ attempts to contact Canyon State Propane, the operator of Bill’s Propane Service, and Sundance Airport Parking remain unanswered.
