Mayor Nancy Smith, all six city council members, and other city leaders received a threatening email last week. The profane message urged Maricopa residents to “come together and blow your f*cking heads off.”

The email, dated July 11, originated from an unidentified sender. This hostile communication followed a confrontation on July 4 involving First Amendment auditor Peter J. Rodriguez and Maricopa police officers. Rodriguez was arrested during the incident, as covered by InMaricopa.

Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman addressed the issue in an email to City Manager Ben Bitter and the city council. He noted that a review of the confrontation was ongoing and that administrative actions would be taken if deemed necessary. “Our reviews are continuing, and administrative action(s) will be taken as appropriate,” Goodman stated.

Documents obtained by InMaricopa through a public records request today reveal more about the incident and the email received by city leaders. Chief Goodman reported that the Maricopa Police Department’s command staff had conducted a preliminary review of the confrontation and the subsequent arrest of Rodriguez.

Rodriguez faces multiple charges, including assault on an officer, resisting arrest, refusal to identify himself, obstructing a thoroughfare, criminal nuisance, and obstructing governmental operations.

Goodman remarked that the incident “offers opportunities for training and continued improvement.” Copies of the email were also sent to MPD command staff and Deputy City Manager Micah Gaudet for awareness.

The unedited email to city leaders read as follows:

“IS THIS how you c*cksuckers let your f*cktards treat the people of that community???? IF SO, The I TRULY HOPE the GOOD people of that community come together and BLOW your f*cking heads off …… I WILL urge them to do so …. F*CK YOU and your OATH violating for profit parasites ….. GET RID of those OATH violating FILTH, before AMERICANS come and do it for ya ……….. NOW F*CK OFF ………….”

Goodman clarified that the email contained “no actionable threats.” He elaborated further, explaining that the situation was “a multi-faceted and rapidly evolving event that our officers continuously train to navigate.”

Rodriguez’s arrest was recorded by other First Amendment auditors while he was filming police at a traffic hazard on July 4 at John Wayne Parkway and West Ferrell Road. The footage, captured amidst fireworks from Copper Sky park, was shared on the website Bitchute under the title, “Dozens of cops escalate on Independence Day.” The video, named “Zero to Insanity,” included a still frame showing an MPD officer pushing Rodriguez moments before his arrest.
