Recently, the Cancer Association of Havasu faced a major shakeup as Founder Evie Cistaro, along with the entire 19-member committee, announced their departure. Ember Van Vranken, an attorney with CHDB Law, raised concerns about the foundation’s allocation of donations, pointing out discrepancies in the financial statements. Despite assertions from the foundation’s executives that they honor donors’ intentions, doubts remain among the association members. Efforts to mediate the situation by council member Jim Dolan have so far been unsuccessful, leading to the decision for the Cancer Association to sever ties with the foundation.

While Cistaro and the committee were initially met with resistance in their attempt to transfer the charity to a different 501c3, they remain determined to continue their mission under a new entity. The departure of the committee from the foundation raises questions about the future operations of the Cancer Association in Lake Havasu City. Despite the challenges, Cistaro and her team are committed to serving the local cancer community and addressing their needs.
