Blazing Inferno: Romero Fire Rages Southwest of Kearny

KEARNY, Ariz. — Fire crews are battling the rapidly spreading Romero Fire, which as of Saturday evening has consumed 4,200 acres, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The blaze is located 13 miles southwest of Kearny and 14 miles west of Dudleyville and has been active since July 19.
Residents of the 3C Ranch have been urged to prepare for immediate evacuation. Authorities emphasize that these residents remain in the “SET” phase of the emergency plan, ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
The Arizona Trail between Oracle and Kearny has been closed as a precautionary measure. Fire crews are racing against a storm cell forecasted to bring winds up to 50 miles per hour, posing additional challenges to containment efforts.
The Romero Fire, now 0% contained, continues to grow. Air tankers have conducted multiple retardant drops to hinder the fire’s spread. Officials reiterate that wildfires are “no-drone” zones to prevent interference with aerial suppression.
Currently, no communities are under “GO” or “READY” evacuation orders, but the situation remains fluid. The Arizona Emergency Information Network provides detailed guidance on the READY, SET, GO evacuation protocols.
Although no road closures have been reported, authorities are closely monitoring traffic conditions. Information on evacuation shelters is yet to be released.
Residents in fire-prone areas are strongly advised to prepare an emergency supplies kit. Essentials include three gallons of water per person, a three-day supply of ready-to-eat food, and crucial documents in a waterproof container. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) also recommends items like a first-aid kit, medications, a battery-powered radio, and durable clothing.
