Tucson Streetcar’s 10th Anniversary: Festivities Light Up Sun Link Route

The Sun Link streetcar is marking its tenth anniversary with a full day of celebrations on Saturday, July 20. Events will take place in various locations, including Mercado San Agustin, historic Fourth Avenue, Main Gate Square, and the University of Arizona.

The festivities, sponsored by the city, will kick off at 8 a.m. with a press conference at the Sun Link headquarters, located at 290 E. 8th St. Mayor Regina Romero and other special guests are expected to attend.

From 9-11 a.m., a “Sun Link Celebration” will be held at the streetcar stop on 8th Street and 4th Avenue. Attendees can enjoy games, giveaways, music, and additional activities suitable for all ages. Main Gate Square, at 814 E. University Blvd., will host further activities from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., featuring games, prizes, and discounts. These events will take place on the sidewalk in front of Kababeque Indian Grill and Gentle Ben’s Brewing.

The celebrations continue on the University of Arizona campus with “Story Time with Moana” from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Student Union’s KIVA Room at 1303 E. University Blvd. The closest streetcar stop for attendees is at 2nd and Highland.

For those who enjoy nightlife, the Desert Haze Vintage Market at the Hotel Congress Plaza, 311 E. Congress St., begins at 8 p.m. Local vendors will be selling food and vintage goods, and there will be live performances by The McCharmlys and The Charities. The market, which charges a $5 entry fee, is suitable for all ages and will also offer drink specials.

The day of festivities will conclude with the “Flow for the Soul Train: Streetcar Jubilee” at the Mercado San Agustin Annex. Alongside local vendors and food trucks, attendees can enjoy live music and DJ tracks. Tickets for this closing event are $10, with proceeds benefiting the All Souls Procession. Additionally, Sun Link riders will receive a 10% discount at select Mercado vendors.
