Strong winds bring smoke from Oregon, Idaho wildfires to Lake Havasu City

Smoke has recently been spotted near Lake Havasu City, sparking curiosity among residents. The source of this haze is multiple wildfires in Oregon and Idaho, with winds transporting the smoke into southern Nevada and northern Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

Despite the visible smoke, air quality remains relatively unaffected, currently rated at 37. Chris Outler from the Las Vegas forecast office indicated that the smoke is light and poses minimal risk to the public. “If you are really sensitive, if you have respiratory issues, or are especially sensitive to poor air quality, it’s definitely recommended to stay indoors and limit your time outside,” he advised.

Significant wildfires are currently raging in the Pacific Northwest. The Rail Ridge Fire in central Oregon has consumed approximately 61,000 acres, while the Wapiti Fire in Idaho has burned 112,321 acres since its start on July 24.

Outler noted that smoke is also emanating from fires in Nevada and Utah, but these conditions are expected to improve soon. “For the next day or two, it looks like there will be some haze around, but the wind pattern will shift to the south over the weekend. By Saturday and Sunday, we should see better visibility and the smoke dispersing,” he added.
