Police Identify New Suspect in ‘Big Orange Boat’ Trespass Case
Lake Havasu City’s well-known floating concession, the Big Orange Boat, has drawn attention for more than just its vibrant exterior. Recently, authorities have ramped up security measures, installing surveillance cameras and microphones, after multiple incidents of trespassing.
Two arrests connected to the vessel occurred within a week. On September 3, Kristina L. Kimball, a 37-year-old California resident, faced theft charges after allegedly taking a hat off a mannequin onboard. Just days earlier, another individual was cited for trespassing while aboard the boat without consent.
The second suspect, Douglas D. Christian, 33, from Lake Havasu City, reportedly boarded the boat on August 27. Video footage, shared on social media by the boat’s owner, allegedly shows him exploring both the front and rear decks of the vessel.
In a twist, Christian acknowledged his actions on the same Facebook post, identifying himself as the suspect. He later reached out to the boat’s owner, claiming curiosity about the vessel and expressing an interest in starting a similar business.
The boat owner has emphasized that “No Trespassing” signs are prominently displayed, with clear warnings that violations would result in prosecution. Law enforcement visited Christian’s home, where he admitted to entering the boat out of curiosity. He was subsequently cited for criminal trespassing.
As of now, a hearing regarding Christian’s case awaits scheduling in Lake Havasu Municipal Court.
