Rep.-elect Jeff Weninger is back in the House as the chair of the Commerce Committee after taking a term off to run for state treasurer. His previous experience includes eight years on the Chandler City Council, where he honed his skills in local governance.

During his earlier term in the House starting in 2015, Weninger emphasized fiscal policy initiatives. He was instrumental in sponsoring key legislation aimed at combatting employment discrimination based on pregnancy and played a significant role in legalizing event wagering and fantasy sports betting statewide.

Weninger’s bid for state treasurer in 2022 ended in a primary defeat against incumbent Kimberly Yee. Undeterred, he returned to the political arena this cycle, advocating for job growth and tax reductions as essential elements of his campaign.

He faced stiff competition in a district where Republicans had only a slim 1.56% advantage. Alongside running mate Julie Willoughby, Weninger competed against Democratic challengers Brandy Reese and Nicholas Gonzales, ultimately emerging as the highest vote-getter with 25.94% of the votes.

He now represents Chandler, Gilbert, and Sun Lakes in the Legislature. Weninger has not yet responded to multiple requests for comment regarding his new role and objectives moving forward.
