Crash cuts power to more than 500 Hidden Valley homes

A red Ford F-150 crashed into a power pole on Barnes Road in Hidden Valley on August 16, 2024, resulting in significant damage and a power outage affecting over 500 homes. The incident occurred around noon, prompting response from local authorities and power companies.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lauren Reimer stated the driver might have experienced a medical emergency at the time of the crash. Emergency services transported the driver to a nearby hospital for evaluation.

The collision caused a steel power pole to fall, disrupting electrical service to 524 residences, as confirmed by Electrical District No. 3 (ED3). Repair crews are currently on-site working to replace the damaged pole and restore power, which is expected to be restored shortly. “Residents in the affected area may experience temporary power outages as crews work,” the ED3 statement noted.

The accident occurred under high temperatures, with the National Weather Service predicting a high of 110 degrees Fahrenheit for the day. This further complicates the conditions for residents facing power outages.

In light of the ongoing outage, ED3 has offered several tips for residents to manage their situations effectively:

  • Turn off all lights in your home except for one as a signal for when power is restored.
  • Unplug appliances and electronics to protect them from potential surges when electricity returns.
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to maintain internal temperatures, as unopened fridges can keep food cold for approximately four hours.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel, as traffic lights may not be operational.

As the situation develops, residents are advised to remain cautious and informed. The community is urged to stay tuned for updates regarding power restoration efforts and further guidance from local authorities.
