Over 100 palm trees damaged by fire during Tuesday's storms in West Valley

Firefighters responded to a large fire that engulfed an abandoned palm tree farm in the West Valley during Tuesday night’s lightning storms.

Rural Metro was dispatched at about 8 p.m. to the area near 83rd Avenue and Broadway Road. Upon arrival, they discovered approximately an acre of palm trees on fire. Strong winds allowed the fire to rapidly spread to an estimated 150 trees.

Fortunately, the fire was contained and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is suspected to be connected to the lightning storms that moved across the Valley Tuesday night.
