Debbie Lesko, a familiar face in Arizona politics, has officially started her tenure as a member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for District 4. The former U.S. Congresswoman was sworn in on Monday and expressed gratitude to West Valley residents for their support. Her key priorities will focus on public safety, election integrity, and prudent management of taxpayer funds.

In her inaugural speech, Supervisor Lesko pledged to champion a thorough audit of Maricopa County’s election system. This measure aims to reinforce the integrity of elections in the area, as she committed to during her campaign. Lesko emphasized her preference for involving a “reputable firm” to conduct the audit, a stance that garnered applause from attendees at the Board’s first meeting of the year.

Supervisor Thomas Galvin, newly appointed Chairman of the Board, corroborated Lesko’s initiative, stating that the board would lead a “comprehensive review” of election operations this year. This is part of their commitment to ensure optimal performance within the county’s election system.

Lesko also referenced a recent discussion with Florida’s Secretary of State and Arizona’s Senate President, where they explored disparities in election processes between their states. She indicated a desire for legislative changes aimed at enhancing the speed and effectiveness of election results across Arizona.

Her predecessor in Congress, Congressman Abraham Hamadeh, praised Lesko’s quick action on election accountability, marking her swearing-in with an acknowledgment of her dedication to maintaining election integrity through the proposed audit.
