The Phoenix Writers Club (PWC), founded in 1926 after a group of women writers were barred from a men’s press club, has evolved significantly over the decades. Initially created to empower female authors, the club expanded to include male members in the 1990s. It now embraces writers of all genres and skill levels, embodying the principle of “writers helping writers.”
Monthly meetings take place on the third Saturday, featuring guest speakers who share insights on diverse topics, including publishing, promotion, and various writing styles. The upcoming session on September 21 will showcase author Sudha Balagopal, known for her work in flash and micro fiction. Her fiction has been acclaimed and published internationally.
The meeting is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the Devonshire Senior Center, located at 2802 E. Devonshire Ave. Attendance is priced at $10 for members and $15 for guests. For inquiries regarding attendance or the club, contact Cindi Reiss, the club president, at phoenixwriters1926@gmail.com.
