Water Service Restored to 4,000 Casa Grande Residents After Storm Disruptions
Casa Grande, Arizona, experienced a significant water service disruption on Sunday. City officials have confirmed that repairs are complete, and water service is now being restored to residents.
On Sunday morning, numerous residents woke to find they had no water. One caller to 12News, who asked to remain anonymous, reported reaching out to Arizona Water Company for assistance but received no timeline for service restoration.
Audrey Lopez, a resident among the approximately 4,000 customers affected, described the water pressure fluctuating from a trickle to completely unavailable. Bottled water became a necessary resource for her family during the outage.
Another homeowner, Carol Hirst, noted that the lack of running water left her without a functioning kitchen. Neighbors began to communicate regarding the outage, finding they all faced the same issue. Hirst mentioned she had never experienced a water outage like this before.
David Kean from the Casa Grande Fire Department provided updates, explaining that the Arizona Water Company had successfully completed repairs on damaged water lines caused by recent storm activity.
The Arizona Water Company had previously scheduled a maintenance outage near Trekell and Korsten roads for system upgrades. However, unexpected storm conditions led to further complications, including a failure at a critical booster station. This incident was detrimental for many residents situated north of McCartney Road.
Mark Kieren, Vice President of Operations for the Arizona Water Company, reassured the community that water service had been fully restored by 1 p.m. on Sunday. He clarified that all booster stations were operational again.
While the cause of the outage remains under investigation, Kean mentioned the possibility that lightning may have played a role in shorting out the booster station.
This situation highlights the fragility of infrastructure in the face of severe weather, prompting officials to address the need for ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
