Rich Vitiello is a familiar figure along State Route 347, campaigning early on a June morning. His signs dot the landscape, drawing attention to his candidacy. But what lies beneath the surface of this local political personality?

In an exclusive interview, Vitiello (R-Maricopa) discussed his family, his vision for Pinal County, and his decision to run for the Board of Supervisors in District 1. For 28 years, he and his wife, JoAnn, a dedicated nurse practitioner, have built a life together, raising four daughters and now enjoying ten grandchildren, with their eldest daughter working alongside JoAnn at the family clinic.

Vitiello describes himself not just as a businessman and public servant but as a family-oriented individual who distinguishes himself from typical politicians. “Politicians have a habit of making promises they don’t fulfill. When I make a promise, I keep it,” he asserted, offering a glimpse into his commitment to integrity.

Why venture into politics then? Vitiello explains, “That’s how people get elected. It’s a political process, where sides are drawn, and votes cast. But there’s more to it than that. Each person running for office should demonstrate leadership capability and experience.” His motivation is clear: a desire to serve the community rather than personal ambitions.

His experience spans over 25 years in business, during which he has actively engaged in public service on the Maricopa City Council. “I volunteer here, locally. I’m fiscally conservative and believe government should answer to the people,” he stated, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and public safety.

Addressing campaign financing, Vitiello stated, “Absolutely not” when asked if donations influence favoritism. He believes that contributions should aid in promoting an open, equitable election process. “I entered this race to bring a sense of fairness and integrity back to this district. I’m here to help people, not game the system,” he maintained.

Vitiello further elaborated on his focus post-election: “The focus should be about the people to serve, not the political party. I don’t care what side of the political spectrum they’re on. I’m here to answer questions and help people.” His dedication to community service reflects a belief that supporting individuals can lead to transformative life changes.

Vitiello has secured the Republican nomination for Pinal County Supervisor in District 1 and is set to challenge Coolidge Democrat George Arredondo in the general election on November 5.
