Veteran Officer Unmasked in Last Week’s Shocking Shooting Incident
Investigation continues after shots were fired by Lake Havasu City Police officers during a domestic violence response. The officer involved has been identified as Joey Vinegas, who has served for a decade.
The incident started around 9:10 p.m. on August 1st, when Vinegas responded to a call on Oro Grande Boulevard concerning domestic violence. Myers, the suspect, reportedly fled and threatened Vinegas with a pink handgun.
According to initial reports, Vinegas discharged his service weapon at Myers but missed. Myers then supposedly buried his firearm in a nearby area before escaping. Detectives later located Myers’ weapon and subsequently arrested him on charges of aggravated assault against an officer.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, as is customary to avoid potential conflicts of interest in officer-involved shootings. This transfer of responsibility helps maintain impartiality in the investigation.
As of Thursday, Myers is held at the Mohave County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
