UA Campus Unveils 12 Museums & Collections for Public Exploration This Saturday!

This Saturday, March 29, the University of Arizona will host Museum Day, offering free or reduced admission to a variety of museums and exhibits across campus. Attendees can explore a total of 12 different collections focusing on science, history, and art.
Participating institutions include the Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium, the Poetry Center, Center for Creative Photography, Archive of Visual Arts, Worlds of Words Center, UA Museum of Art, Tree-Ring Lab, John E. Greivenkamp Museum of Optics, Museum Association of Arizona, African American Museum of Southern Arizona, and the Coit Museum of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Heather Ingram, director of the Coit Museum, expressed enthusiasm about the museum’s debut participation in this event. “Previously, visitors needed an appointment to see our collection, so many people were unaware of what we offer,” said Ingram. “Our collection features a world-class snow globe assortment, a vintage pharmacy exhibit from Disneyland, and intriguing items like asthma cigarettes.” Starting Wednesday, April 2, the Coit Museum will welcome walk-in visitors on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while maintaining appointment-only hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission remains free, situated in the Skaggs Pharmaceutical Sciences Center at 1703 E. Mabel St., Room 260.
Additionally, the African American Museum of Southern Arizona invites visitors year-round at no cost. Located in the Student Union, Room 244 at 1303 E. University Blvd, this museum features 17 exhibits highlighting African American history in Arizona. “We aim to offer insights that might surprise people, providing education about local African American heritage,” noted Beverly Elliott, executive director of AAMSA. Exhibits cover topics such as the Buffalo Soldiers, the CROWN Act, and Coach Fred Snowden. Attendees on Museum Day can also look forward to complimentary snacks, while supplies last, and details about a forthcoming swim program set to launch next month at the campus recreation center.
For convenience, the University of Arizona website features an interactive map, guiding visitors through participating collections and museums. This event is suitable for individuals and families of all ages.
