Tyler Moldovan’s Ex-Chief Takes Helm as Goodyear Police Chief
Chief Brian Issit, a 22-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, has assumed the role of Goodyear’s new police chief.
Issit retired from Phoenix police in 2023 and began his new position in Goodyear this month. During his tenure at Phoenix, Issit commanded the Desert Horizon Precinct, a notable period marked by the survival of Officer Tyler Moldovan after being shot eight times in December 2021 near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road. Issit presented Moldovan with his official police badge at a special ceremony at Chase Field.
“Nothing prepares you as a leader for having an officer of yours that’s shot. Really, mortally wounded,” Issit reflected during the badge ceremony. “I mean, Tyler wasn’t expected to survive.”
Issit steps into the leadership role following the retirement of former Chief Santiago Rodriguez earlier this year. City officials cited Issit’s impressive work experience and commitment to public safety as key factors in his appointment.
“He is a police officer who has been through the good and the bad while protecting the public, which will give him great perspective in this leadership role,” stated Goodyear City Manager Wynette Reed.
