Two Injured in Dramatic Plane Crash Near Cordes Lakes
CORDES LAKES, Ariz. — Two individuals sustained injuries in a small plane crash that occurred on Sunday in Yavapai County. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a single-engine Cessna 172 went down east of Interstate 17 near Bloody Basin Road at approximately 9:40 a.m.
Emergency response teams were alerted following a 911 call reporting the incident. Deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) located the aircraft at the bottom of a canyon after deployeing off-road vehicles for the search.
Both passengers in the plane suffered minor injuries and were transported to a Phoenix hospital via an Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter. The YCSO confirmed that they have since been stabilized.
The passenger in the aircraft reported that the engine failed prior to the crash. The FAA has initiated an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
