Another cold night for Tucson: Freeze warning continues into Monday

Temperatures in much of Southern Arizona are expected to remain near freezing overnight into Monday, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a freeze warning. This alert will stay in effect until Monday morning, with forecasts suggesting a potential hard freeze around 25 degrees.

The NWS warning encompasses the Tucson metro area, Tohono O’odham Nation, and larger portions of Pima County. However, Cochise County and the Safford area are not included in this warning, a shift from earlier precautions this week.

“At or below freezing temperatures will persist through Monday morning for most of Southeast Arizona,” forecasters indicated. They predict a warming trend throughout the week, with temperatures expected to peak above normal levels on Thursday.

In response to the cold, the NWS advises residents to protect sensitive plants. They recommend wrapping, draining, or allowing outdoor water pipes to drip slowly to prevent freezing and bursting. For those with in-ground sprinkler systems, draining them and covering exposed pipes are also recommended precautions.
