Pinal County Elections Department reported a significant start to early voting, accepting over 27,000 ballots during the first week ahead of the November 5 general election.

According to Elections Director James Heiman, 27,157 ballots were received in total. Of these, 13,364 came from Republicans, 8,035 from Democrats, and 5,590 were classified as “no party designated.” The remaining 168 ballots were cast by voters affiliated with the Libertarian, No Labels, and Green parties.

While historical data for early voting in Pinal County is scarce, officials consider the current early voter turnout to be impressive. This initial week represents just a fraction of the 314,145 registered voters in Pinal County, which has an approximate population of 426,000.

In the board of supervisors races, District 1, which encompasses the city of Maricopa and adjacent areas like Thunderbird Farms and Hidden Valley, saw 4,530 early ballots returned. This was the lowest turnout compared to other districts, with District 2 close behind at 4,501 votes. Meanwhile, other districts registered nearly 7,000 ballots.

Pinal County Recorder Dana Lewis expressed optimism regarding the early ballot returns, stating that they align with the broader early voting trends throughout the state. On a recent visit to her office, she emphasized the importance of early voting as promoted by various political parties.

Voters still have the opportunity to obtain and cast their ballots by mail. To request a one-time mail-in ballot, contact the Elections Department at 520-509-3555 by October 25. For further details, visit Pinal.gov/PinalVotes.
