Teen door checker checks into jail

Maricopa police arrested a 19-year-old man early Monday morning after he confessed to stealing candy and wallets from multiple vehicles. Jacob S. Herrington has been charged with several offenses, including three counts of trespassing, two counts of burglary and theft, as well as one charge of underage drinking, according to a probable cause statement.

The incident began around 1 a.m. when officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on West Kendra Way. Herrington, described as wearing a dark hoodie and red bandana, was seen checking the doors of cars parked in the street alongside another individual.

Police located Herrington in the driveway of a nearby home on West Camino De Janos. He was allegedly found attempting to remove a duffel bag from one of the vehicles. Upon questioning, Herrington admitted to burglarizing several cars with an accomplice, claiming they checked eight or nine vehicles and successfully broke into three or four.

During the interrogation, Herrington revealed that he took various items, including candy, lighters, chargers, and wallets containing credit cards, stating he was motivated by financial struggles. Additionally, officers detected the smell of alcohol on his breath, and Herrington admitted to consuming “four or five” shots of Crown Royal prior to the thefts. A subsequent breath test recorded a blood alcohol concentration of .07.

Currently, Herrington has been booked into Pinal County jail, where he faces potential sentencing of over 14 years. The identity of the second individual involved in the incident remains undisclosed.
