PHOENIX — A tragic incident has left an 81-year-old man dead following an alleged hit-and-run in north Phoenix. The city’s police department reports the incident occurred early Sunday morning.

Phoenix police were alerted just after 6 a.m. about an injured individual near Cave Creek and Bell roads. Upon arrival, officers discovered Eduardo Ramirez Jimenez, deceased with evident trauma.

Investigations led authorities to 27-year-old Alberto Chilel Santos, identified as the primary suspect in Jimenez’s death.

According to police, evidence gathered at the scene pointed to a nearby damaged vehicle, suggesting a recent collision.

Santos exhibited signs of impairment during his apprehension, officials said. Consequently, he was detained and booked into Maricopa County jail.

Facing charges of manslaughter and fleeing the scene, Santos remains under investigation as authorities continue to examine the incident.
