Suns sign Tyus Jones to 1-year deal, adding point guard to aid team's All-Star trio

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Suns have signed point guard Tyus Jones to a one-year deal, bolstering their roster alongside All-Stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

Jones confirmed the agreement in a statement to ESPN through his agency, LIFT Sports Management. He expressed excitement about joining the Suns, citing the strong recruitment efforts of Governor Mat Ishbia and Coach Mike Budenholzer’s vision for his role on the team.

“The chance to play for the Phoenix Suns made the most sense on a lot of levels to me and my family,” Jones stated. He highlighted the opportunity to contribute significantly to a team with championship aspirations.

Last season with the Washington Wizards, Jones averaged 12 points and 7.3 assists per game. His career includes stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies.

Standing at 6-foot-1, Jones is recognized for his impressive shooting, posting a 49% field goal percentage and 41% from beyond the arc last season. His addition addresses the Suns’ need for a true point guard, a void that contributed to their early playoff exit last year.

Tyus Jones, identified as the market’s top remaining free agent guard, has secured a $3.3 million deal with the Suns. This move positions him to increase his value ahead of next year’s free agency while aiming to be part of a special season in Phoenix.

The Suns are among four major sports teams based in Phoenix, alongside the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, and MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks. The city is also home to a multitude of major sporting events yearly, including the Fiesta Bowl, WM Phoenix Open, and Cactus League Spring Training.
