SWAT team made meth, fentanyl bust in Heritage District

The Maricopa Police Department has disclosed significant developments following a drug bust in the Heritage District on Wednesday. A SWAT team’s search led to the seizure of various narcotics and the arrest of two individuals.

With assistance from the Pinal County Regional SWAT team, MPD detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on the 20000 block of Taft Avenue. The operation resulted in the apprehension of David Fryer, 61, and Jesi A. Garcia, 38. These actions were part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, confirmed by MPD spokesperson Monica Williams.

According to a probable cause statement, other individuals involved in the probe indicated that Fryer was actively selling methamphetamine and fentanyl pills. They informed the police that Fryer stored a substantial quantity of drugs in a green safe located in his bedroom.

During their search, officers discovered five bags containing 68 grams of methamphetamine, 86 suspected fentanyl pills, various meth pipes, small clear baggies, a scale with white residue, and $600 in cash. The fentanyl pills have been sent to a laboratory for confirmation.

Fryer admitted to an addiction to smoking meth but declined to answer further questions from law enforcement. He has been booked into the Pinal County Jail on five felony charges, including possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Under Arizona’s presumptive sentencing guidelines, Fryer could face over 70 years in prison.

Jesi A. Garcia was also charged with possession of narcotic drugs, drug paraphernalia, shoplifting, and two additional bench warrants. Public court records reveal that Garcia has been arrested 10 times previously on charges ranging from drug possession to theft and trespassing.

Williams stated, “The SWAT team was deployed for the execution of the search warrant due to potential risk at this residence. This is standard procedure.”
