The Shemer Art Center is currently showcasing its 40th New Horizons High School Student Art Exhibition, which runs through February 13. This year’s exhibition features an impressive collection of 88 artworks from over 45 high schools throughout the Valley. Notably, the exhibition highlights the top two selected pieces by juniors and seniors from a diverse array of local schools.
Shonna James, president and executive director of the Shemer Art Center, commented, “This exhibition reflects a wide range of very unique perspectives and techniques. What we enjoy most is sharing the works and stories created by these students who are able to express themselves through art.” The exhibition not only displays individual creativity but also fosters community engagement through art.
Since its inception in 1984, the center’s mission has been to support and showcase Arizona artists. It operates from one of the first homes built in Arcadia, dating back to 1919, which was generously donated to the city of Phoenix by Martha Shemer in 1984. This year marks the 41st anniversary of the center as a vital visual art destination in the city.
The Shemer Art Center invites the public to explore its exhibitions, gift shop, and sculpture garden, which are open from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The center is conveniently located at 5005 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix. For additional information on exhibitions, classes, and artist opportunities, interested parties can contact the center at 602-262-4727.
