'Double Arch' feature at Glen Canyon has collapsed

No injuries were reported as a result of the collapse, according to the National Park Service.

LAKE POWELL, Ariz. — The “Double Arch” feature in Rock Creek Bay at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area has apparently collapsed into the water.

National Park Service rangers confirmed on Aug. 8 that the arch, a well-known structure, is no longer standing. It’s believed changing water levels and erosion contributed to its collapse.

“This event serves as a reminder of our responsibility and need to protect the mineral resources surrounding Lake Powell,” Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Superintendent Michelle Kerns stated.

The arch, formed from 190-million-year-old Navajo sandstone, was a popular attraction. Visitors often posted images online of themselves jumping from the arch into the water.
