Rep. Ciscomani Takes a Stand Against Amnesty International’s Accusations on Israel

By Daniel Stefanski |
A Republican Congressman has defended Israel against allegations made by Amnesty International, sparking a notable response. U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani expressed his disagreement with the organization’s claim, which suggested that Israel harbors genocidal intent in its military operations in Gaza. He stated, “Amnesty International’s baseless accusation against Israel is not only false, it is an antisemitic attack against the Jewish state as it fights to defend its people against Iran-backed terrorist proxies.” He urged the U.S. to reject such accusations and reaffirm its support for Israel.
Amnesty International’s report contended that “genocidal intent has been part and parcel of Israel’s conduct in Gaza since October 7, 2023.” This prompted a strong rebuttal from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which labeled the allegations as unfounded. The IDF emphasized that the accusations neglected Hamas’ violations of international law, including its tactics of using civilians as shields and intentionally targeting Israeli civilians.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) also criticized the report, describing it as a “slanderous attack on Israel” that constitutes blood libel. They argued that Israel is responding to a genocidal assault initiated by Iranian proxies. AIPAC called the report a continuation of Amnesty International’s history of biased anti-Israel sentiment, highlighting that the organization’s U.S. branch is led by someone they claim denies Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.
Ciscomani’s commitment to understanding the complexities of the Israeli experience was evident during his April delegation visit to Israel. He met with Israeli officials, learned from former IDF personnel, and visited locations impacted by the recent violence. Following the trip, he expressed a renewed understanding of the challenges Israelis face, emphasizing the importance of U.S. support in their defense efforts.
Recently re-elected for a second term, Ciscomani represents a critical swing district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He holds positions on various committees, including Appropriations and Veterans’ Affairs, and is an active member of several caucuses focused on critical issues.
