Police: Havasu Man’s Unusual Move Lands Him Behind Bars After Jail Break-In
In Arizona, the problem of recidivism persists, with a statewide rate of 36.3%. This highlights the challenges many face in avoiding re-arrest.
This month, a notable incident unfolded in Lake Havasu City involving a 35-year-old man, Matthew M. Grady. According to law enforcement, Grady attempted to gain unauthorized access to the police department’s jail intake area.
On October 10, Grady reportedly followed a staff member through a secured gate into the police yard around 7 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene and located Grady near the jail’s sally port.
Upon questioning, Grady explained that he was attempting to retrieve his wife, who had been arrested the previous night. He had initially tried to enter the lobby, which does not open until 8 a.m., but found it closed.
As a result of his actions, Grady was charged with a misdemeanor count of second-degree criminal trespassing and was subsequently booked into custody at the facility.
