Pima Women Face Setback Despite Bold Strike at Phoenix College
The Pima Community College women’s soccer team faced a setback on Saturday, falling to Phoenix College in a closely contested match. With the loss, the Aztecs, now holding a 6-1 record, suffered their first defeat of the season against the 4th-ranked Bears, who improved to 7-0-1.
Sophomore Lizzie Walker from Canyon del Oro High School put the Aztecs ahead in the 27th minute with a well-placed goal. However, the Bears responded quickly, equalizing the score just six minutes later when Chloe Corral found the back of the net.
The teams entered halftime at a 1-1 deadlock. It wasn’t until late in the match that the Bears seized control. In the 79th minute, Carmen Coronado scored, giving Phoenix College a decisive 2-1 lead that the Aztecs could not overcome.
The Aztecs struggled offensively, managing just two shots on goal throughout the game. Freshman Phoebe Knisley, also from Canyon del Oro HS, had a commendable performance in goal, recording five saves.
Pima will look to rebound as they prepare to host Scottsdale Community College at the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
