Pima baseball completes sweep against Colorado Northwestern for 10th straight win

The Pima Community College baseball team remains undefeated at 10-0 after a four-game series sweep against Colorado Northwestern Community College on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.

This match featured the Aztecs’ seventh walk-off win of the season. Sophomore Caden Richards led offensively, finishing the day with three hits, three RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks. Collin Senior contributed significantly as well, going 2 for 6 with two RBIs. Freshmen Jackson Glueck and Sean Barta both hit home runs, while Luis Pablo Navarro and Lucas Casey provided strong performances on the mound.

In Game 1, the Aztecs overwhelmed the Spartans 11-1 in just five innings. Nolan Ganter secured the walk-off victory with a two-run double that scored Richards and freshman Matt MacDonald. The team loaded the bases via three consecutive walks before Ganter’s clutch hit in the fifth inning.

Pima’s offense ignited in the second inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Zach Plasschaert, which drove in Barta. Glueck then belted a two-run homer, pushing the score to 3-0. The Aztecs followed that with five runs in the inning, aided by Richards’ sacrifice fly and Senior’s RBI single.

Pima capitalized on defensive errors from CNCC, adding three more runs in the third. Barta extended the lead to 9-0 with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Ganter finished the game with two RBIs, while Navarro earned the win after pitching five innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out eight.

The scoreline for Game 1 revealed the dominance of the Aztecs:

PCC 0 5 3 1 2 11 8 0

W – Navarro (2-0). 2B: Ganter, Plasschaert. HR: Glueck, Barta. SB: Glueck, Leyva, Martinez, Barta.

Game 2 saw Pima emerge victorious again, defeating the Spartans 7-0. Casey was dominant on the mound, pitching five no-hit innings while striking out seven and walking two. This marked his second consecutive game without allowing a hit.

The Aztecs took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning thanks to Senior’s sacrifice fly and a wild pitch that allowed Richards to score. They significantly padded their lead with five runs in the sixth, driven by a throwing error and back-to-back RBI singles from Cereceres and Richards.

Cereceres shone offensively, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Richards ended with three hits and another RBI.
