Pet of the Month: Adorable Steve Irwin Awaits His Forever Home (Snacks Welcome!)
Steve Irwin, a two-year-old German Shepherd, has made a remarkable recovery following a suspected rattlesnake bite. In early July, he was transferred to the Arizona Humane Society’s Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital after being discovered with severe swelling, bleeding from his nose, and two puncture wounds.
Immediate veterinary care played a crucial role in his recovery. Initially treated at a local emergency clinic, Steve received antibiotics, pain relief, and a steroid injection. Following these interventions, he was moved to the Arizona Humane Society, where he underwent intensive medical monitoring and treatment, including IV fluids due to complications from the bite.
Despite the challenges, Steve’s sweet nature has shone through. He relishes being petted, enjoys playing with toys, and is eager to learn new tricks for tasty rewards. Prospective adopters can meet Steve Irwin, pet number 782187, at the AHS’ Papago Park location. His adoption fee has been waived and covers essential medical services including neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and a follow-up wellness exam.
For those interested in adopting or fostering pets, further information can be found by visiting Arizona Humane Society’s website, where a variety of animals are available for adoption or in need of foster care.
