Paul Diefenderfer Shares Essential Tips on Desert Survival and Hiking Adventures

Cave Creek Museum will host a presentation by local desert expert Paul Diefenderfer on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM. The event, titled “Desert Survival and Hiking Basics,” aims to educate attendees about the challenges of navigating desert terrain.
“The desert can be an unforgiving place with extreme temperatures, limited water resources, and potential wildlife encounters,” Diefenderfer warns. He emphasizes the importance of preparation, noting that trails may be poorly marked and cell service is unreliable. Attendees will learn about essential gear, the best times to hike, and how to obtain help in emergencies.
This presentation will benefit both newcomers to the desert and seasoned hikers alike. Diefenderfer brings a wealth of experience as a hiker, mountain rescue specialist, rock climber, mountain biker, artist, and dedicated volunteer at the Cave Creek Museum.
The event will take place in the museum’s historic church. Admission is free for museum members, while non-members can attend for a fee of $10. Established in 1969, the museum is committed to preserving the history and culture of the Cave Creek Mining District and surrounding areas through education and interpretive exhibits.
The Cave Creek Museum is located at 6140 E. Skyline Drive in Cave Creek, Arizona. It operates from October through May and can be reached at 480.488.2764.
