Park center explores desert living

The North Mountain Visitors Center is hosting two free educational programs this month that aim to enhance local understanding of desert ecosystems. The first program, titled “Ask a Ranger,” will feature Ranger Paul Westcott, who will engage with participants about the diverse wildlife and plant life found in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.

Additionally, the “Rattlesnake Garage” program promises to provide crucial insights into snake behavior and safety. Attendees can expect an interactive presentation that covers essential topics such as desert conservation, recognizing different snake species, safe practices during encounters, and debunking common snake myths. Audience participation is encouraged, allowing for a dynamic learning experience.

These events, organized by the Save Our Mountains Foundation, are scheduled for Saturday, September 7. “Ask a Ranger” runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by “Rattlesnake Garage” from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Located at 12950 N. 7th St., just south of Thunderbird Road, the North Mountain Visitor Center offers these programs at no cost. However, donations to the Foundation are welcomed as a means to support ongoing educational initiatives. For more details, visit the North Mountain Visitor Center’s official website.
