Mesa Walmart cleans and investigates after man sprays bug killer on produce

Mesa Police are currently investigating a disturbing incident caught on video at a local Walmart. The footage, shared on social media, shows an individual spraying a bug killer on various food items within the store.

The video, which emerged on December 19, depicts the individual using “Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer” on bananas, potatoes, lemons, limes, and rotisserie chickens. This alarming act took place at the Walmart located at 1955 S. Stapley Drive.

According to police, they were notified of the incident on Friday and have begun their investigation. Store management has been notified, and any potentially affected produce has been removed from public areas. The health and safety of customers remain a priority, as stated by a Walmart spokesperson.

Shoppers at the Mesa store expressed outrage over the actions depicted in the video. Frequent visitor Ramon Soberanes described the incident as “disgusting,” emphasizing that families shop there regularly.

Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly negative, with many criticizing the act regardless of whether it was intended as a prank. Reports indicate that the video was later deleted from the platform where it was originally posted. Further investigation revealed the original poster’s TikTok account, which featured a series of provocative videos, including one where the suspect claimed to lock individuals inside a Goodwill store.

One recent story from the account displayed the suspect pushing a shopping cart filled with the allegedly contaminated items toward a truck, claiming he disposed of them, although this was not evident in the video.

The situation has raised significant concerns about food safety and public health, prompting law enforcement to closely monitor developments. The investigation remains ongoing.
