Maricopa Hospital Takes Bold Step: New Blood Supply Initiatives Underway

Exceptional Community Hospital of Maricopa has made a significant advancement by introducing life-saving blood products on-site. This development tremendously enhances the ability of medical staff to deliver prompt and effective care to trauma and critically ill patients.
“Having blood in stock means we can treat trauma and critically ill patients without delay,” stated Bruce McVeigh, chief operating officer of Exceptional Community Hospitals. This new capability not only enables local stabilization of patients but also contributes to improved health outcomes.
Previously, Maricopa faced delays in blood transfusions, relying on facilities in the Valley for supplies. The establishment of onsite blood storage represents a critical leap in care delivery, effectively eliminating the time lost in transport.
This initiative is part of a larger system-wide effort by Exceptional Healthcare to enhance readiness for high-stakes emergencies. With this enhancement, patients in Maricopa are less likely to need transfer to larger facilities during life-threatening situations, potentially making a life-saving difference.
“The ability to immediately administer blood products during severe trauma or other emergent conditions significantly improves our ability to stabilize patients at the bedside,” remarked Dr. Brad Green, Medical Director, highlighting the importance of this change.
Chief Nursing Officer Iven Wilson emphasized, “This blood supply is not meant for routine care or planned treatments. It is intended only for life-saving support during urgent and unexpected medical emergencies,” clarifying the focused use of these resources.
