Lake Havasu Marine Association seeking volunteers for annual cleanup

As summer officially comes to an end, the Lake Havasu Marine Association is gearing up for its 2nd Annual End of Summer Cleanup. Scheduled for October 5, the event promises to be a community-focused initiative aimed at enhancing environmental stewardship.

The association invites volunteers to join the cleanup at Havasu Riviera Marina. “This is our second annual event and it’s growing more each year,” said Rick Riegler, President and CEO of the association. This year’s effort will concentrate primarily on water areas, although participants will also tackle land-based cleanup spots.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., where participants will be assigned either water or land tasks. Last year’s event attracted 120 volunteers who utilized boats, jet skis, and kayaks while others participated on foot to collect significant amounts of trash.

“You don’t need to have a boat to participate,” Riegler emphasized. “We have several assignments on land including areas like the Riviera Marina, state park, and Body Beach.”

Volunteers are encouraged to return to the Riviera Marina around noon for lunch, an awards ceremony, and important announcements. Categories for awards include the most unique item, the most of the same item, the largest item, and the overall volume of trash collected.

In the previous year, participants gathered an impressive 1,960 pounds of trash, recovering items ranging from tires to furniture. This cleanup highlights the community’s commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Lake Havasu.
