KJ Lewis Shines with 21 Points in Arizona’s Dominant Victory Over No. 21 West Virginia 75-56
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — KJ Lewis delivered a stellar performance, scoring a career-high 21 points as Arizona decisively defeated No. 21 West Virginia 75-56 on Tuesday night. This victory marked the Wildcats’ fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12.
In addition to Lewis’s standout showing, Jaden Bradley contributed 15 points, while Anthony Dell’Orso chipped in 10 points for Arizona. Conversely, Javon Small led the Mountaineers with 17 points as West Virginia struggled offensively, recording its lowest point total of the season.
The Wildcats sought redemption after suffering a November overtime defeat to West Virginia while competing in the Bahamas. Midway through the second half, Dell’Orso momentarily left the game after colliding with a chair but returned to contribute to the team’s momentum.
Arizona’s hot streak comes after a shaky start to the season, characterized by a 3-4 record. They concluded a demanding road trip by securing two victories, including a win against then-No. 16 Cincinnati.
On the West Virginia side, Tucker DeVries missed his sixth consecutive game due to an upper-body injury. His presence was missed, as the team had no other players besides Small reach double figures in scoring.
A key moment in the game occurred when West Virginia attempted a comeback, sinking three consecutive 3-pointers to cut Arizona’s lead to five. Lewis quickly countered, scoring seven points during an 11-0 run that extended Arizona’s lead to 64-47.
Arizona capitalized on their speed and exploited West Virginia’s defensive breakdowns, effectively scoring 13 layups throughout the contest.
Looking ahead, Arizona will host UCF on Saturday, while West Virginia travels to Colorado for a matchup on Sunday.
