Kids Team Up to Read and Bring Comfort to Shelter Pups

The Valley’s young readers are invited to improve their skills while also improving the lives of Phoenix’s homeless dogs.
Parents in the Valley now have a unique opportunity to enhance their children’s reading abilities while contributing to the welfare of local homeless pets. The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has launched its Reading Fur Fun program, aimed at children aged five to 12, running through November.
This initiative allows kids to read aloud to shelter dogs, providing essential socialization and stimulation for the animals. In return, the dogs offer an engaging and rewarding experience, complete with playful moments and affectionate interactions.
Sessions are hosted at the Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus, located at 5501 E. Van Buren St. Enrollment costs $15 for one child accompanied by an adult. To register, visit www.azhumane.org/read-to-pets-with-reading-fur-fun or call the campus at 602-997-7585 for more information.
