Kevin Durant Takes France by Storm: Wins Gold Medal and Buys Soccer Team!

In a surprising move during his Olympic pursuits, Suns star Kevin Durant has reportedly acquired a minority ownership stake in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), one of France’s premier soccer clubs.
PARIS, France — While competing for his fourth gold medal at the Summer Olympics, Durant has taken a significant step into the world of European sports investments. The news comes from sources including The Athletic’s Peter Rutzler and Shams Charania, detailing Durant’s recent visit to PSG’s training facility in Poissy, France, shortly before the U.S. team triumphed over Brazil in the quarterfinals of Olympic basketball.
On August 5, Durant toured PSG’s Campus and engaged with club officials, players from various teams, and the academy. Reports indicate that this visit was not solely for a casual tour but served as a backdrop for his strategic investment.
According to the reports, Durant’s investment firm, Boardroom Sports Holdings, LLC, navigated its entry into PSG through Arctos Sports Partners, an American private investment group that acquired a 12.5% stake in the club earlier this year.
PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi expressed his enthusiasm about Durant’s involvement, stating, “Kevin is an inspirational athlete, investor, and universal role model, both on and off the court. We look forward to working closely with Kevin and Boardroom to bring the best of sports and entertainment to fans around the world.”
Though the club has yet to officially announce Durant’s investment, the news surfaced on Boardroom’s X (formerly Twitter) account, hinting at further updates to come.
This development isn’t Durant’s first brush with the soccer giant. He visited PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium back in September 2015, showcasing his long-standing admiration for the club.
Durant’s investment aligns him with a growing trend among American sports figures delving into European soccer. Notable examples include former Arizona Cardinal J.J. Watt and his wife, Kealia, who hold minority stakes in Burnley FC, and NFL legend Tom Brady, who is involved with Birmingham City FC.
Phoenix, where Durant’s NBA team is based, is itself a hub for major sports franchises, hosting the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and Arizona Diamondbacks. The city also boasts a vibrant soccer scene with Phoenix Rising FC in the USL.
