Kari Lake Exposes Spies, Lies, and Chaos Within the U.S. Agency for Global Media

By Matthew Holloway |
On Wednesday, Kari Lake, Senior Advisor for the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), delivered compelling testimony to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. She outlined serious institutional shortcomings, describing the agency as “largely incompetent, corrupt, biased, and a threat to America’s national security.”
Lake opened with a striking assertion about the agency’s failure to fulfill its mission of promoting freedom and democracy worldwide. Instead, she claimed, the USAGM’s focus has shifted towards mismanagement and actions contrary to its stated values.
Her remarks faced a mixed reception, with some committee members resorting to personal attacks. Undeterred, Lake firmly declared, “This place is rotten. It’s rotten to the core.” She emphasized that her objective, as requested by President Trump, is to restore the agency to its core responsibilities.
Lake identified alarming dysfunction within the agency, particularly regarding security access for staff, many of whom are foreign nationals. She alleged that these individuals were granted high-level access based on dubious background checks.
She pointed out that during the Trump administration, corrective measures were implemented to address these security failures, yet the Biden administration reversed these actions. “For a decade, serious security issues were consistently flagged, but USAGM leadership ignored these warnings,” she said.
Rep. Abe Hamadeh’s office reported a resurgence of problematic practices under the current administration, including falsification of records and inadequate background checks for sensitive positions. Lake discussed the concerning influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) over the agency, claiming they exert more editorial control than agency leadership.
She revealed that CCP officials have attended meetings with Voice of America (VOA), actively influencing content. “By their request, interviews critical of the CCP were curtailed,” she added, pointing to alarming dynamics within the agency.
Lake’s testimony highlighted ongoing struggles within the USAGM, raising critical questions about the agency’s direction amid foreign influence.
