Jon Post appointed new Marana mayor following death of Ed Honea

The Marana Town Council appointed Jon Post as the new mayor on Tuesday, a decision expedited by the passing of former Mayor Ed Honea last fall. Post, who was serving as vice mayor prior to Honea’s death, had stepped into the role of interim mayor in November and will now hold the position officially for the next two years.

Following the 2026 general election, a special election will be held to fill the remaining two years of the mayoral term, according to town officials.

Reflecting on his new position, Post expressed admiration for Honea’s leadership. “I loved being second behind Ed. It was one of the best times of my life,” he stated. “I didn’t ever truly have aspirations to be mayor because Ed did such a great job. He made it such a great place to serve.”

Honea, who passed away at the age of 77 on November 22, had an extensive tenure of nearly two decades as mayor. Remarkably, he was re-elected unopposed shortly before his death.

Post, a native of Marana, has been a fixture on the council since June 2013. In light of his promotion, Councilmember Roxanne Ziegler was appointed as vice mayor. At the council meeting, Ziegler acknowledged the circumstances surrounding her new role, stating, “I didn’t really want to get here that way, but Ed left a great vision for us.”
