Coffee in Italy ll

This summer, travelers eager to explore Italy are in for a treat. Upon landing in Milan, the vibrant epicenter of fashion and culture, we immediately sought out authentic pasta and a fine wine to soothe our jetlag. Our evening unfolded beautifully, as we perched at a high-top bar, absorbing the lively street scene. The tailored suits and chic outfits reminded us of a classic Italian movie. Milan’s cosmopolitan aura was palpable within the small section we explored. After a restful night in a boutique hotel, we set off for Sicily.

In Sicily, we found that the average Italian adult enjoys about four cups of espresso daily. This caffeine intake is essential for zipping down the narrow streets on electric Vespas. Charging stations are complimentary, providing both energy for the vehicles and the drivers. Navigating even a Mercedes van through these tight spaces requires acute awareness. Those who walk must be vigilant, enhancing the thrill of driving through this picturesque landscape.

While wandering the ancient streets of Syracuse, we sought out coffee and gelato, which are both delicious and plentiful. After indulging in doppios and pistachios, we made our way to the shores of the Ionian Sea, reminiscing about the rich history that shaped this city—from Greek and Roman conquests to WWII liberation. Sitting in a Greek amphitheater while sipping coffee, we felt a profound connection to the past.

Our journey continued to Taormina, where the history of foreign conquest is palpable. Seated in a centuries-old Greek amphitheater, we enjoyed a symphonic performance that left us speechless. Legend has it that Ulysses succumbed to the alluring scents and songs of this land, but we maintained focus and instead sought a refreshing cold beer. Our discovery of French fries and ketchup made us feel delightfully American. Soon, we’d be heading back home.

Returning to Carefree and Cave Creek, we found our confidence in driving greatly improved. Navigating the roundabouts and intersections now felt effortless, thanks to our Sicilian experience. We appreciated a cozy dinner at Uncle Louie’s, complete with Italian waiters and wines sourced from Sicily—an enjoyable end to our adventure.
