I-10 and SR 51 Weekend Road Closures: What You Need to Know from Sept. 20-23
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced several improvement projects that will lead to closures and lane restrictions on Phoenix-area freeways this weekend, from September 20-23.
Significant restrictions are set for various routes. Notably, northbound State Route 51 will be closed between the I-10/Loop 202 interchange and Loop 101 from 9 p.m. Friday until 9 p.m. Saturday for pavement sealing. Drivers are advised to use northbound I-17 to eastbound Loop 101 as a detour.
Westbound Interstate 10 will also face closures between Loop 202 and US 60 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday due to paving operations and a traffic shift. This includes the closure of the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and various other ramps. Motorists can consider detouring on eastbound Loop 202 to reach the freeway. This route may be particularly beneficial for fans attending the Arizona Cardinals game on Sunday.
Additionally, the northbound lane of Interstate 17 will be restricted to one lane between Loop 303 and State Route 74 from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements. Off- and on-ramps at Dove Valley Road will also be closed, and travelers should consider alternate times for travel to avoid delays.
Southbound State Route 143 will close between Loop 202 and I-10 during the same timeframe for a traffic shift, resulting in additional detours. Alternate routes to reach destinations such as Sky Harbor Airport may include westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10.
