One individual has been hospitalized following a two-car accident on Smith-Enke Road near John Wayne Parkway on the morning of August 28, 2024. The collision occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Maricopa Police Department and the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department.

At the time of the crash, the westbound lanes of Smith-Enke Road were already obstructed due to a previous incident involving a disabled semi-truck. Crews worked to move the truck to the shoulder for safety. However, traffic remains impeded as cleanup efforts from the crash continue. The entrance to Maricopa Professional Village is also affected by the ongoing situation.

Witnesses reported seeing a damaged green Kia Soul with significant impacts to its passenger side and a black Toyota SUV with front-end damage. Airbags deployed in both vehicles. Emergency responders transported one person to the hospital for treatment and evaluation.

“Three people were involved,” stated Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams. “One has been transported for treatment and evaluation.”
