Governor Katie Hobbs unveiled her budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2026, garnering support from Arizona Democrats. This proposal, the third of her term, emphasizes key themes: opportunity, security, and freedom for all Arizonans.

In a recent statement, Hobbs articulated her vision, asserting that the budget reflects her dedication to economic growth, cost reduction, and community safety. “Together, we’ll realize the Arizona Promise,” she stated, encapsulating her administration’s priorities.

Democratic leaders in the Arizona Legislature were quick to endorse the proposal. House Democratic Leader Oscar De Los Santos emphasized the budget’s alignment with their focus on affordability. He criticized corporate greed and highlighted the need for measures to reduce costs related to childcare and housing. “This proposal provides an excellent starting place for bipartisan negotiations,” he stated, underscoring the importance of protecting working families amid rising costs.

Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan echoed these sentiments, commending the Governor’s fiscally responsible approach. She noted the proposal’s focus on making Arizona an affordable place to live and work. Sundareshan expressed hope for collaboration with Republicans to address the challenges posed by the universal ESA voucher program and stressed the urgent need for investments in Tribal communities and affordable housing.

Despite the support within their party, Arizona Democrats may face challenges as budget negotiations proceed in a divided state government. Over recent years, Republican leadership has dominated budget discussions, successfully maintaining their priorities while seeking concessions from Hobbs and Democratic lawmakers.
