Week 6 of Friday Night Fever’s 35th season brought excitement as the 12Sports team covered games in Queen Creek and Anthem. As October begins, Arizona’s high school football scene enters its second half, with initial rankings for the Open Division, 6A, 5A, and 4A expected soon. Fall break saw many games shift to Thursday night, adding to the weekend’s competitive spirit.
Highlighting the week’s thrilling matchups, ALA-Queen Creek preserved its undefeated record with a 17-0 victory over Mountain Pointe, marking a significant step toward a top-eight ranking in the Open Division playoff standings. This highly anticipated showdown drew 61.5% of votes from over 150,000 participants in the Game of the Week poll.
Basha handed Brophy its first loss of the season in a nail-biting 35-32 finish. Meanwhile, Liberty dominated Chandler with a 45-20 score, raising questions about a potential repeat as Open Division champions. Centennial snatched its first 6A Northeast Valley region win by defeating Saguaro, while Red Mountain delivered Highland its first loss this season with a decisive 28-11 triumph.
In a notable rivalry, Mountain View overwhelmed Westwood, winning 50-6 in an All-Mesa battle. Cesar Chavez celebrated a historic win over Desert Ridge in their inaugural region game, defeating them 25-12. The matchup between Desert Edge and Millennium ended with a robust score of 40-13, as Cactus edged Canyon View 30-23, and Valley Vista accomplished a significant 44-0 victory over Willow Canyon.
Snowflake continued its undefeated streak by shutting out Seton Catholic 41-0. Estrella Foothills secured a 41-6 victory against Maryvale, while AZ College Prep opened its region play with a strong 42-12 win over Vista Grande. On the road, Boulder Creek seized its first win of the season, defeating Mountain Ridge 64-22.
This week also featured engaging interviews with Boulder Creek players Brennan Curtin and Karsten Cornell, as well as head coach Josh Bahr, following their successful region opener.
